The short answer

ZoopCoder installs a self-hosted email server (Mailcow or iRedMail, your choice) on your own VPS for a fixed ₹2,099, ready in 2-3 working days. The price covers the install on a server in your name, up to 3 domains and 10 mailboxes, SSL, the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, webmail, spam filtering, a send-and-receive test against Gmail and Outlook, and daily backups with one tested restore. Mailcow documents a minimum of 6 GiB RAM plus 1 GiB swap on its default settings and does not run on OpenVZ or LXC servers, and many cloud providers block outgoing port 25 until you ask them to open it, so we check your server and provider before you pay for anything. The server, domain and any provider fees are paid for separately.

What you get

  • A check of your VPS and provider before work starts: virtualisation type, RAM, and whether outgoing port 25 is open, so you do not buy the wrong server
  • A production install of Mailcow (Docker-based, with SOGo webmail) or iRedMail (lighter on memory), whichever fits your server, with the version number written down for you
  • Up to 3 domains and 10 mailboxes created, with aliases if you need them
  • The mail hostname with SSL that renews itself, and the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records written out for you to add, or added by us if you give DNS access
  • The reverse-DNS (PTR) name worked out for you to set in your VPS provider's panel, since only the provider can set it
  • Spam filtering turned on and tuned to sensible defaults, and webmail tested
  • A send-and-receive test to Gmail and Outlook addresses, with the message headers checked for SPF, DKIM and DMARC passes
  • Phone and desktop mail apps tested against one mailbox using IMAP and SMTP
  • Daily automatic backups to a location you choose, and one test restore so you know the backup works
  • A short written guide and 14 days of fixes for anything we configured

What we need from you

  • A VPS with root access, bought in your name, on KVM or similar full virtualisation — we tell you the size to buy and which providers to avoid before you pay for one
  • A domain you control, and DNS access if you want us to add the records
  • A list of the mailboxes you want and who will use them
  • A request to your VPS provider to open outgoing port 25 if it is closed by default — we write the request text for you

Not included

  • The VPS fee, domain fee and backup storage fee, billed by those providers to you
  • Moving existing mailboxes in from Gmail, Zoho or another host — IMAP mailbox migration is quoted separately
  • Bulk, newsletter or cold-email sending — a new server IP has no sending reputation, so use a proper sending service or see the cold email infrastructure service
  • Any guarantee that your mail lands in the inbox, since that depends on your IP reputation and the receiving provider
  • Removal of an IP blacklist listing, quoted separately — see Email IP Blacklist Removal
  • Ongoing server updates, monitoring and abuse handling after the 14 days

About this service

Running your own mail server means no per-mailbox monthly fee and full control of where your mail is stored, which is why agencies, small teams and privacy-minded businesses ask for it. It is also the easiest server to get wrong. Mail needs the right ports open, SSL on the mail hostname, a matching reverse-DNS name, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, or Gmail and Outlook send your messages to spam or reject them. Mailcow also lists OpenVZ and LXC servers as unsupported and asks for about 6 GiB of RAM on its default settings, and a lot of cloud providers keep outgoing port 25 closed until you request it. We check all of that first, install the server, publish the records and test real delivery to Gmail and Outlook before handover. If you would rather not run a server at all, Business Email Setup puts your domain on Google Workspace or Zoho Mail instead, and Email Deliverability Setup fixes the records on a mailbox host you already have.

Questions before you buy

Mailcow or iRedMail — which one?

Mailcow has a modern admin panel and SOGo webmail but is heavy: its documentation asks for at least 6 GiB of RAM and 1 GiB of swap on default settings. iRedMail is lighter on a small server. We recommend one after checking your VPS, before you pay for anything else.

Will my emails land in the inbox?

We set up SPF, DKIM, DMARC and reverse DNS and test delivery to Gmail and Outlook, but we cannot promise inbox placement. A brand-new IP has no sending history and the receiving provider makes the final call.

My VPS provider blocks port 25. What now?

Many cloud providers block outgoing port 25 by default. Some open it on request, some never do. We check before you buy, and write the request to your provider if it can be opened. If it cannot, we tell you to choose another provider rather than take your money.

Can I send newsletters or cold emails from it?

No. This is a server for everyday business mailboxes. A new server IP has no reputation, and bulk sending from it will get you blocked. Use a dedicated sending service for campaigns.

Can you move my old emails over?

Not in this fixed fee. Copying old mailboxes depends on size and the old host, so it is quoted separately.

Who owns the server and the mail?

You do. The VPS and domain are in your name and we only use the access you give us. You can remove our access when the 14 days of fixes are over.
