About this service
WordPress Multisite lets one WordPress install run many sites that share the same core files, themes and plugins but keep their own content, media folder and database tables. It suits an agency with a group of related sites, a business with regional or brand sites, or a school with many departments, because you update the software once instead of five times. The catch is that it changes how the install works. The official guide says to back up first, to have pretty permalinks working, and to deactivate plugins before enabling it, and the setup screen then gives you lines to paste into wp-config.php and .htaccess. Sub-domain networks may need wildcard DNS only for sites created on demand, and not every host allows it, which is why we check your host before choosing. Not every plugin behaves on a network, and individual site owners can activate themes and plugins but not install them, so we keep the shared plugin list short and tell you which roles can do what. Questions before you buy
Is Multisite right for me?
It is right when the sites are managed by the same people and can share plugins and themes. If each site needs very different plugins or its own hosting, separate installs are safer. Message us the sites you have in mind and we will say honestly which fits.
Will my existing site break?
We back it up first and test after. Some plugins do not work on a network, so we check your plugin list before enabling it and tell you about any that need replacing. We do not guarantee that every plugin will carry over.
Sub-domain or sub-directory?
Sub-domain gives addresses like shop.yourbusiness.com and sub-directory gives yourbusiness.com/shop. The choice depends on your host and the existing permalink settings, and switching later is not always simple, so we confirm it with you first.
Can I use a different domain for each site?
Yes, up to 2 custom domains are included. You point their DNS as we explain and we map them and check SSL. More domains are quoted separately.
Can you move my other WordPress sites into the network?
Not in this service. Moving content, media and plugins between installs is a separate job, quoted separately.
Do you need my passwords?
We need a WordPress admin login and hosting access for the job. Change them after the 14 days of fixes, or remove our access, whichever you prefer.
