The short answer

ZoopCoder installs a private GitLab Community Edition or Gitea Git server on your own Ubuntu server for a fixed ₹3,999, ready in 2-3 working days. The price covers the install of the one you choose, your domain with SSL, working git push over both SSH and HTTPS, outgoing email, your admin account with one organisation and up to 5 users, one CI runner with a test pipeline, and daily backups with one tested restore. GitLab needs a server with at least 4 GB of RAM, while Gitea runs comfortably on a small 1-2 GB server, so the choice mostly comes down to the server budget. The server, domain and any paid GitLab licence are billed separately.

What you get

  • A production install of GitLab Community Edition (official package) or Gitea (Docker Compose with PostgreSQL) on your Ubuntu VPS — we help you pick one before you pay for a server
  • Your domain or subdomain pointed to it with free SSL that renews itself, and HTTPS enforced
  • Git over SSH working without clashing with the server SSH port, and git over HTTPS working, both proven with a real test push
  • Server hardened: firewall on, root login and password login for SSH switched off, a separate non-root user for the service
  • Outgoing email configured so invites and password resets arrive, with a test message sent and received
  • Your admin account, one organisation or group, up to 5 user accounts and one test repository with branch protection on the main branch
  • One CI runner registered (GitLab Runner or Gitea act_runner) and a test pipeline run that passes
  • Daily automatic backups to a location you choose, and one test restore so you know the backup works
  • A short written guide to updating the server and 14 days of fixes for anything we configured

What we need from you

  • An Ubuntu VPS with root access bought in your name — at least 4 GB of RAM for GitLab, 1-2 GB is enough for Gitea; we tell you which plan to buy before you pay for one
  • A domain or subdomain you can point to the server, and access to its DNS settings
  • A mailbox or SMTP login for outgoing email
  • Your choice of GitLab or Gitea, or a line about your team size so we can recommend one

Not included

  • The VPS fee, domain fee and backup storage fee, billed by those providers to you
  • GitLab paid tiers (Premium or Ultimate) and their licence fees — this service installs the free Community Edition
  • Moving your existing repositories, issues and pull requests from GitHub or Bitbucket — quoted separately
  • Single sign-on, LDAP, Kubernetes runners, container registry tuning and high-availability setups — quoted separately
  • Writing your CI pipelines beyond the one test pipeline — see GitHub Actions CI/CD Pipeline Setup for the GitHub equivalent
  • Ongoing server updates and monitoring after the 14 days — see Website Maintenance Monthly or ask us for a monthly quote

About this service

Teams host their own Git server to keep source code on a machine they control, to avoid per-seat fees as the team grows, or because a client contract says the code cannot sit on a third-party platform. GitLab Community Edition is the heavier choice, with built-in issue boards, a container registry and CI, and it wants a server with at least 4 GB of RAM. Gitea is a lightweight Go application that runs on a small server and has its own GitHub-Actions-compatible CI. The usual self-install problems are the same for both: SSH git access that collides with the server SSH port, email that never arrives, a CI runner that is never registered, and backups nobody has ever restored. We deal with each of those and prove them before handover. Importing your existing repositories, single sign-on and Kubernetes runners are bigger jobs and are quoted separately. For the server itself see VPS Server Setup, and for CI on GitHub instead see GitHub Actions CI/CD Pipeline Setup.

Questions before you buy

Should I pick GitLab or Gitea?

Gitea is the simpler and lighter choice and runs on a small server. GitLab Community Edition has more built in, such as issue boards and a container registry, but needs at least 4 GB of RAM. Tell us your team size and we recommend one before you pay for a server.

Is it free?

GitLab Community Edition and Gitea are both free and open source. You pay for the VPS, the domain and backup storage. GitLab paid tiers need a licence from GitLab, which is not part of this service.

Can you move my repositories from GitHub?

Not in this service. Importing repositories, issues and pull requests is quoted separately.

Will git push work over SSH?

Yes. We set up SSH git access so it does not clash with the server own SSH login, and prove it with a real test push over both SSH and HTTPS.

Can you set up single sign-on or LDAP?

Not in this service. Single sign-on, LDAP and Kubernetes runners are custom work and are quoted separately.

Who owns the server and code?

You do. The server and domain are bought in your name and we only use the access you give us. You can remove our access once the 14 days of fixes are over.
