The short answer
ZoopCoder installs the free open-source Metabase business-intelligence tool on your own Ubuntu server for a fixed ₹999, ready in 1-2 working days. The price covers Metabase in Docker with its own PostgreSQL database for saved questions and dashboards, your domain with SSL, outgoing email, your admin account and up to 3 more users, one data source of your MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar database connected through a read-only login, one starter dashboard with up to 4 questions, and daily backups with one tested restore. Metabase is built to keep its own data in PostgreSQL or MySQL for real use, because the default built-in database is not meant for production. The server and domain are billed separately.
What you get
- Metabase (open-source edition) installed with Docker on your Ubuntu VPS, using a separate PostgreSQL database for its own saved questions and dashboards instead of the default built-in one
- Your domain or subdomain pointed to it with free SSL that renews itself, and HTTPS enforced
- Server hardened: firewall on, root login and password login for SSH switched off
- Outgoing email configured so password resets and dashboard email subscriptions arrive, with a test message sent and received
- Your admin account and up to 3 more user accounts, with one group for view-only people
- One data source connected using a read-only database login that we help you create, and its tables synced
- One starter dashboard of up to 4 questions built on your data, for example daily sales, new sign-ups or orders by status
- Daily automatic backups of the Metabase database to a location you choose, and one test restore
- A short written guide to updating Metabase and 14 days of fixes for anything we configured

What we need from you
- An Ubuntu VPS with root access bought in your name — 2 GB of RAM is the least we recommend for Metabase; we tell you which plan to buy before you pay for one
- A domain or subdomain you can point to the server
- Access details of the database to analyse, which must be reachable from the server, and a short description of the 4 questions you want on the first dashboard
- A mailbox or SMTP login for outgoing email
Not included
- The VPS fee, domain fee and backup storage fee, billed by those providers to you
- More dashboards or questions beyond the starter dashboard, data cleaning and building a data warehouse — quoted separately
- Features sold only in paid Metabase plans, such as SAML or JWT single sign-on, row-level permissions and white-label embedding, and the Metabase licence itself
- Metabase Cloud, which is Metabase hosting and not a server of yours
- Making your database reachable if it is not, or tuning a slow database
About this service
Metabase lets people on your team look at the database in charts and tables without writing SQL, and the open-source edition is free to run on your own server. A quick install with the default settings stores everything inside a built-in file database that Metabase itself says is not for production, so one container restart or upgrade can wipe saved dashboards. The right set-up keeps Metabase data in a separate PostgreSQL database, connects your own database through a read-only login so nobody can change live data by accident, and backs the saved dashboards up. We do exactly that, add SSL and email, and build one first dashboard so you start with something useful. More dashboards, a data warehouse or paid-plan features such as single sign-on are bigger jobs and are quoted separately. For a Google-hosted reporting option instead see Looker Studio Dashboard Setup, and for the server itself see VPS Server Setup.
Questions before you buy
Is Metabase free?
The open-source edition is free to run on your own server. You pay for the VPS, the domain and backup storage. Paid Metabase plans add features such as single sign-on and are not part of this service.
Which databases can it connect to?
Common ones such as MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL, which cover most websites and apps. The database must be reachable from your server; we tell you before you pay if yours is not a fit.
Why a separate database for Metabase?
By default Metabase stores your saved questions and dashboards in a built-in file database that is not meant for production use. We keep them in PostgreSQL so they survive restarts and upgrades.
Will you change my live data?
No. We connect with a read-only login, so Metabase can read your data but cannot change it.
Can you build more dashboards?
This service includes one starter dashboard with up to 4 questions. More dashboards are quoted separately.
Who owns the server and data?
You do. The server and domain are bought in your name and we only use the access you give us. You can remove our access once the 14 days of fixes are over.
